Could the secrets to anti-aging be at the tips of our chromosomes?
By Mandy Kendrick
Peter Pan stayed forever young in Neverland. In real life, some scientists are looking at telomeres, or regions of repetitive DNA at the ends of our chromosomes, to try to arrive at something like a real version of this story. (more…)

“The quest for the test tube of youth
First they beat the squares, the war and the patriarchy. Now the baby-boom generation wants to outwit Father Time. Fears of mortality and elder-care burdens are giving science a senior moment as labs investigate how to sustain healthy vigour far into old age. But is cheating frailty and death more than a vain dream?”

“Telomere biologist Bill Andrews of Sierra Sciences is taking a telomerase-boosting supplement called TA-65. “I believe it’s safer than driving my car to work,” he says. Since he started taking it a year and a half ago, Andrews says he has moved from the back of the pack to the front in 100-mile runs known as ultramarathons.”
Trial results shows TA-65 leads to improved skin condition among older people
Tuesday, June 5th, 2007New York — Telomerase Activation Sciences Inc., based here, has announced the results of its Pivotal 2005 Anti-Aging Trial of TA-65, the first human trial to show measurable and positive anti-aging benefits — including improvement in skin condition — from a Telomerase activator, PRNewswire reports.
The Pivotal 2005 Anti-Aging Trial was a 24-week double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 36 male subjects between 60 and 85 years of age. The study notes that there has been significant research on the role of cellular aging and telomere attrition in several types of skin cells, including keratinocytes, fibroblasts, microvascular endothelial cells and melanocytes. The results of this study suggest that TA-65 improves the structure and/or function of skin in older people.
According to PRNewswire, the study results also showed that subjects experienced improvement in immune system function, vision, sexual function, energy levels and overall sense of well-being.
