Telomere testing provides a unique, more precise understanding of an individual’s aging profile at the cellular level — an assessment we have used at the Center for the past 10-plus years.
We have the privilege of testing a variety of novel diagnostics and interventions at the Center — our “living lab” for Precision Medicine and Health – where our mission is to analyze and codify the root cause of optimal health, and reverse aging disorders with personalized intervention. Telomere testing is one of the advanced tools we include in our clients’ Precision Health Analyses. In fact, although we consider telomere testing an advanced test beyond our baseline kit, we have certain clients who scouted us out precisely for our experience with telomere biology!
Of course, telomere health data does require context to be meaningful. Integrated and interpreted with a client's personal and family history, metabolism, hormones, lifestyle, and genetics, telomere health data can be used to tailor interventions for optimal health. Depending on the findings of our analysis, we can tailor a supplement program to optimize a client’s health portfolio. The telomere test can show us, more readily, how aggressive we need to be with our interventions as a snapshot of a person’s comprehensive aging profile.
The literature on telomere testing and intervention is rich and high-quality. (A Yale-trained endocrinologist-scientist, I would require no less for a tool at my Center.) I recommend that all physicians introducing the technology become familiar with the research, and try the products personally if possible before introducing the concept to patients. Multiple gene-environment interactions influence telomerase activity, so telomere health and response to intervention is highly individualized and cannot be predetermined based on routine biomarkers.
In stark contrast to "conventional docs" who accept deteriorating health as an inevitable consequence of additional birthday candles, we — as Precision Health Physicians — integrate telomere testing as an advanced, science-driven tool to optimize health and longevity with personalized actionable recommendations. We are pro-aging — with one caveat: That we maintain our health in longevity! Telomeres are one more important variable to consider as we chart, and live, that very personal journey.
